Testimonials from Open Door Guests
Open Door guests are always greeted with dignity and respect, and many continue to visit every week for years. Some have stabilized their lives, securing permanent housing and part-time or full-time work. They come back because they feel a sense of belonging. They come back to encourage others to keep trying, to not give up.
Murray was homeless for a while after his marriage and business fell apart. Alcohol abuse and criminal activity sent him into a downward spiral, and he was a regular visitor at Open Door. Eventually he got the treatment he needed, and today he frequents Open Door to encourage others. He says, “I love to give back because I was given to by others. I got a second chance, and I will not forget what a difference it made in my life.”
Charles was homeless and struggling when he first came to Open Door about 20 years ago. Today, he has an apartment and a job but still stops in to chat with the volunteers, and depart kind words of encouragement to those still struggling. Charles says Open Door has always been a safe and welcome haven, especially during his darkest days. He comes to lift others up the way he was lifted up so many years before.
Open Door is a place where all are welcome to the table. We thank you for your financial support, donations, volunteer time, and your generosity of spirit.
