Prospecting for something more valuable than oil or gold in Kenya – drilling begins!
In an arid area of Kenya called Yatta, the Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA) has a small church called Kiwanza. The closest water source is a seasonal river 10 kilometers away where mean crocodiles don’t take kindly to human beings or livestock encroaching on the last of their muddy water pools.
The Presbytery of Detroit Mission Interpretation Committee and its Detroit-Thika Partnership Work Group has over the last several years raised funds to drill a well at the Kiwanza location. In a few weeks, thanks to you members of the Presbytery of Detroit and your generous gifts large and small the work of drilling will begin.
A water well is made up of three phases: Drilling, equipping and Storage provision. Let us talk drilling!
About the picture
This crocodile is nice and fat, almost friendly ..somebody’s pet? The picture is from the internet. The crocodiles near Kiwanza are brown, sneaky, sleek and only time you see them is when they have snatched your dog, goat or sheep (and one time a child) into the water.. too late to save them! It is hard to get their picture too!More on the Thika Partnership
