Tim Moran Named a Senior Lecturer at WSU
Tim Moran, Fort Street Church Ruling Elder and member of the Session, recently was named a senior lecturer in the Irvin D. Reid Honors College at Wayne State University, effective August 18, 2016. This appointment comes following Tim’s having defended his doctoral dissertation, last August, and having had his PhD degree conferred in December 2015. The topic of his dissertation is Our News is Sent by Lightening and, according to Dr. Moran, is a study of “the development of the earliest electric communication networks and nodes in America by examining newspapers and news networks from 1840 to 1892.” He indicates that “a chapter will be published in a book on Gilded Age journalism, being published this year by the University of Tennessee Chattanooga. I will be writing a book from the thesis over the next several years, as well as performing more research.” His degree is in early American history, with reading fields in modern American history and communication.
Dr. Moran also has a master’s degree in early American history, with a minor in medieval history, from Wayne State University (2011), and a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Michigan State University (1979). He and his wife Aimée are longtime members of Fort Street Presbyterian Church. Over the years, Tim has been regarded highly as the church historian.
