The Fort Street Chorale draws audiences from near and far, and singers from more than 30 metro-area communities and Canada
The Fort Street Chorale and Chamber Orchestra continue a 33-year tradition with two major performances each season at historic Fort Street Presbyterian Church in downtown Detroit.
The Chorale’s performances draw audiences from throughout southeastern Michigan and as far away as Colorado and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. The all-volunteer chorus includes singers from more than 30 metro-area communities including Detroit, Birmingham, Canton, Davisburg, Dearborn, Dearborn Heights, Eastpointe, Farmington Hills, Ferndale, Grosse Ile, Grosse Pointe, Grosse Pointe Park, Huntington Woods, Livonia, Novi, Oak Park, Pontiac, Royal Oak, Shelby Twp., Southfield, Southgate, Sterling Heights, St. Clair Shores, Troy, Warren, Wayne, West Bloomfield, Ypsilanti, and Windsor, Ont.
Since 1971, the Fort Street Chorale has grown from a handful of singers to a musically proficient ensemble of more than 80 voices. Under Director Edward Kingins’ leadership, the Chorale performs regularly and has received widespread recognition, including the 1984 Emmy-Award-winning documentary, “The Miracle on Fort Street,” that has been broadcast throughout the world.
